OTTAWA (ON) - Canada Post launched its 2012 Community Foundation for Children fundraising campaign in Toronto today by unveiling a semi-postal stamp. The new stamp—available in post offices across the country—will carry a 10-cent surcharge that goes directly to the work of the Foundation. Canadians will also be asked to support the Foundation’s fundraising efforts by making a donation with their purchases.

The Canada Post Community Foundation for Children will focus on supporting children’s charities and school programs—including organizations that provide mental health initiatives aimed at youth. Overall, Canada Post hopes to develop an engaging connection with children’s causes in every community in the nation.

“For decades, our employees and our company have been helping generations through our Santa Letter-writing program and other children-related initiatives. With our Foundation, we want to continue having a positive effect in the lives of children and families across the country,” says Deepak Chopra, Canada Post’s President and CEO.

The stamp design focuses on a circle of children’s hands. The multi-coloured hands represent the diversity and breadth of the need to help children’s charities. The heart represents the generosity of Canadians investing in the future of Canada.

44 non-profit groups receive grants
The Foundation also revealed the names of the 44 non-profit community groups that are the recipients of more than $2 million raised in last year’ fundraising efforts.

With this grant from the Foundation, we can continue to make youth mental health and well-being a priority in urban, rural, and remote communities everywhere in Canada.”
