Talks between Canada Post and CUPW continue

Canada Post is committed to serving all Canadians while not becoming a drain on taxpayers. With a double-digit decline in core mail volumes over the last five years, the company needs to closely manage costs to protect service to Canadians and secure a viable future for the postal system in this country.

Canada Post has tabled a new offer to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW). The new offer put forward by the company gives employees better wages and benefits. Specifically, the offer provides:

  • Annual wage increases
  • An annual cash bonus tied to the company’s performance is maintained
  • Job security
  • No changes to a Defined Benefit pension plan currently enjoyed by employees
  • Comprehensive benefits for employees and retirees
  • Generous vacation leave

For employees hired in the future, Canada Post has proposed a new wage and benefits package that is competitive and comprehensive. In addition, the company has proposed making CUPW employees part of the same sick leave program that has been implemented for other bargaining agents as well as management and executives.

Canada Post has tabled an offer that will ensure CUPW-represented employees continue to enjoy some of the best wages and benefits in Canada. This offer demonstrates that Canada Post is serious about reaching a deal that meets the needs of employees and the company.

It remains business as usual at Canada Post and we do not anticipate any immediate disruption to mail service. Should a work disruption occur, Canada Post will not operate. Mail and parcels will not be delivered.

However, we remain committed to delivering federal and provincial government socio-economic cheques to the people who need them. Socio-economic cheques that will continue to be delivered by Canada Post in the event of a work disruption include Old Age Security, Canada Pension Plan, Quebec Pension Plan, and the Canada Child Tax Benefit.

Canada Post will work hard in the coming days to reach a negotiated settlement to this round of collective bargaining with CUPW.
